Danilo Gallinari Suffers Torn ACL, Out For 2022-23 Season

Brad Stevens is SUCH an asshole. The Boston Celtics were declared winners of the 2022 NBA offseason for picking up two of the most injury prone players in the league (Danilo Gallinari & Malcolm Brogdon). In the most predictable turn of events in recent memory, Gallinari has already been ruled out for the upcoming season after suffering a torn ACL playing for the Italian International team.

Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston was the first to post the press release:

Gallinari also posted a (heartwarming?) message on his Twitter account.

Gallinari, 34, signed 2 year / $13,281,950 (mid-level fully guaranteed) contract this past offseason. That deal comes with a player option for year two which will surely be picked up. Smart move by the agent to include that player option.

If the Celtics improve their win total this year, it won’t be because of their offseason.

The thing that sucks is this was so predictable. Gallinari is never healthy. Why was he playing in those International games, to begin with? Gallinari has not hit the 70 games played mark since 2012-13 with Denver. The guy is never healthy. Frankly, I have no idea why Boston prioritized Gallinari but that’s Brad Stevens for you.

Shocker Trey wins again.

Boston can now apply for a designated player exception. Boston can sign another player for half of what Gallinari makes. Some have floated the idea of Carmelo Anthony. For the love of god, please pray that I don’t have to endure that pain.

If this happens I will riot. We do get that Carmelo is 38 and can’t play anymore, right?
